How to Tell if Someone You Know Has a Drug or Alcohol Problem


If the person you know has one or more of the following signs, he or she may have a problem with alcohol or drugs:

  • Constantly talking about drinking alcohol or using drugs.
  • The person appears depressed or has unusual temper outbursts.
  • A pattern of change in their work attendance, school grades, or the quality of their work.
  • Paranoia
  • Pattern of change in attitude
  • Becoming deceitful, minimizing or denying alcohol or drug use.
  • Legal problems
  • Trouble at school
  • Secretive behavior, disappearing without telling people where they are, frequent trips to the restroom.
  • Becoming withdrawn
  • Change in friends or activities.
  • Money problems.
  • Marital or relationship problems.
